Glacier details 1

McDonald Lake Lodge, Cabins and Motor Inn Information

According to Dave Conklin (author of Montana History Weekends: 52 Adventures in History) the best time of the year to visit Glacier is in the Fall near the end of September. This time of year brings the best weather, colors and most favorable crowd conditions. I have calculated that using the cabins would probably be the best decision and per cabin, the fee for lodging would be about $240.00-$300.00 for the entire trip. I am thinking that perhaps a three day weekend 9/17 (a Friday) through 9/19 (a Sunday) would be enough time for the wedding, and extra activities (like the boat and bus tours, hiking, picture excursions, etc.). I have taken into consideration the special needs of our more delicate guests. There is a basic hiking trail that is close to the lodge and is handicap accessible. There are several different bus tours available: fees range from $40.00/adult to $75.00/adult. The DeSmet boat tour is an hour in length and costs just under $15.00/adult.

Camping may be an option for some guests to consider as an alternative to the cabins idea.

Paperwork includes The Application for Special Use Permit and costs $50.00. The cost to book a certified minister for the ceremony is unclear, but section eight of they special permits page lists a few that have conducted ceremonies in the past and may be available. The seven day entrance pass is 25.00 per vehicle or 12.00 per person. Carpooling may be an option.

The Knot

The Knot
Okay one last cake for tonight. It's another small two tier, clean, white, but this one implements the fresh flower idea in lieu of any fancy frosting decor.

The Knot

The Knot
I love the simplistic blue paisley pattern. Again it is a small cake. Nothing too fancy or anything. It's easily understood.

The Knot

The Knot
I like the simplicity of the semi-scrollwork decoration on this small cake. I like the cleanness of the lines.

The Knot

The Knot
This is a white on white cake. I like the little pearl-like dots. It's simple, sassy and still grasps at the elegant.

This dress is fun. It might be a little bit too juvenile for me with the daisies. I don't mind the shorter style with the full skirt though!

Another ballgown style. The skirt is like a cloud of tulle!

This is a more traditional ballgown style, but I like the way the skirt falls and the belting at the waist. Depending on what happens with the venue, this dress may be a winner.

This is one of the less expensive, but unique, dresses I have found on TheKnot.com. The pleating in the bodice is intriguing and the trumpet skirt may be flattering.

Weddings Page from Glacier National Park

Brian and I thought that it might be interesting (not to mention freakin' gorgeous) to get married in Glacier or Yellowstone National Parks. The guests wouldn't have any issues finding lodging, they could stay as long as they wanted, and as a semi-destination wedding it might be kind of fun! This way we could combine the honeymoon with the wedding events and, maybe, save a little money, too.

I like the idea of a trumpet skirt. But I would have to try one of these types of dresses on before I decided whether I liked it on me or not. I really do like the idea of seeing my super shoes!

This dress is way off subject. It is probably far too formal for the types of weddings I have been considering. I just love the detail and the uniqueness of the skirt. Haha.

I don't know about this dress. I just love how ethereal and just plain pretty it is. I don't know how well I would wear it.

A few bridesmaid dresses to consider

These are the best I can do right now for photos of my ring! Hope you enjoy!

As you can see, the gemstone is aquamarine in a convex triangle cut. There are two small diamonds to the one side of it. I will try and scan in the drawings I have made of the cake inspired by it. I think it's cool, but we'll see what happens!

The Knot Triangular Cake

The Knot This cake inspired me to try a cake modeled from my engagement ring. The cake pans sold on the other hyperlink are perfect for the cake I have in my head.

The venue ideas and guest lists thus far

I have decided to look into the Glacier and Yellowstone Nat'l Parks for possible venue sites for the wedding, reception and vacation. I am still keeping the Daly Mansion in Hamilton in mind for the time being. I need to do a little research on the cruise idea.

Brian has compiled a Plan B guest list that brings the expected attendees for his side to something like 8-12 people. That is for the larger style of wedding (like the Daly Mansion) but he would like better to stick to the original Plan A list of only three or four people on his side. Which is fine, too, as long as I can figure out the other details to balance the microscopic size of the guest lists! With his Plan B and my Plan B, the attendees would number somewhere around 20-25. But the cruise would only work with the Plan A lists, keeping the number to about half of that (10-12 people plus Brian and I.)

I am still sticking to the peacock blues and greens for my colors.
