McDonald Lake Lodge, Cabins and Motor Inn Information
According to Dave Conklin (author of Montana History Weekends: 52 Adventures in History) the best time of the year to visit Glacier is in the Fall near the end of September. This time of year brings the best weather, colors and most favorable crowd conditions. I have calculated that using the cabins would probably be the best decision and per cabin, the fee for lodging would be about $240.00-$300.00 for the entire trip. I am thinking that perhaps a three day weekend 9/17 (a Friday) through 9/19 (a Sunday) would be enough time for the wedding, and extra activities (like the boat and bus tours, hiking, picture excursions, etc.). I have taken into consideration the special needs of our more delicate guests. There is a basic hiking trail that is close to the lodge and is handicap accessible. There are several different bus tours available: fees range from $40.00/adult to $75.00/adult. The DeSmet boat tour is an hour in length and costs just under $15.00/adult.
Camping may be an option for some guests to consider as an alternative to the cabins idea.
Paperwork includes The Application for Special Use Permit and costs $50.00. The cost to book a certified minister for the ceremony is unclear, but section eight of they special permits page lists a few that have conducted ceremonies in the past and may be available. The seven day entrance pass is 25.00 per vehicle or 12.00 per person. Carpooling may be an option.
